GameJolt announces ‘axiom game contest’
August 1, 2009 in Uncategorized
Check out GameJolt’s new contest!
The last contest was a hit with so many good games developed, so we’ve decided to run another one. The contest is now running!

Running Date:
August 1st, 2009
The contest will run for a whole month and end on the 31st of August at midnight Eastern US Time. (view the end time in your timezone)
The Theme:
The theme is Axioms.
Don’t know what an axiom is? Here’s a good definition from wiktionary:
“A self-evident and necessary truth; a proposition which it is necessary to take for granted; a proposition whose truth is so evident that no reasoning or demonstration can make it plainer.”
We will provide a list of ten axioms. You must choose at least one to base your game around (although you can choose more than one). When you submit your game, be sure to tell us which axiom(s) you decided to theme your game from.
List of Axioms:
- A picture is worth a thousand words
- Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
- Even a broken clock is right twice a day
- Laughter is the best medicine
- No good deed goes unpunished
- Quitters never win; winners never quit
- Actions speak louder than words
- Where there’s smoke, there’s fire
- In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king
- A burnt child dreads the fire
The Prize:
Three winners will be picked. All three will be featured on the front page of the site. We’ll also throw you into the closed beta of the ad revenue sharing system if you’re not already in. The first place winner will win a free single game of their choosing from Steam (no packs)! All contestants will also receive a Freakin’ Good Time — courtesy of Game Jolt.
The Rules:
- Your entry must be an original game created just for this contest.
- Your entry must match up to at least one axiom.
- Collaborations are fine. Go for it with someone else! We like team work!
- Multiple games can be submitted this time. (You can not place more than once, though. If you get first place with one game, you won’t get second or third with another)
- There are no restrictions on creation tools, libraries, file sizes or anything like that. We like diversity. Make it in Flash, make it in Construct, code it up from scratch yourself, we don’t care. Just make sure it runs on a Windows operating system, or all the judges may not be able to play it.
- Pre-existing game engines are acceptable.
How to Enter:
To enter your game into the contest, you must upload the game to the main site. After doing that, reply to this forum post with the URL to your game and the axiom(s) you covered.
In Closing:
We’d love some help in spreading the news. If you frequent any forums, or know of/own any blogs, it’d be great if you posted news about the contest. This site will only get bigger with support from YOU. If you’ve posted it in your blog or in a forum, or know of any site that has, you may post the URL to the site in this thread: http://gamejolt.com/community/forums/topics/axiom-contest-news-release/91/
That’s about it, guys. Let’s have a freakin’ good time!
jMonkeyEngine community members are strongly encouraged to partake in this competition. If requested, serious teams/startups could be provided with a blog and possibly other benefits possible with our own server. If there is enough interest we might even open a dedicated board for it. Any way you think the management might be able to help your case, please ask us.
Best of luck to all who enters!
