No GSoC for jME this year

March 19, 2010 in Site & Project

Dearest jMonkeys, we’re sad to say we did not make it into GSoC this year around. You check out the accepted projects yourself. If you want to be nice you can nod agreeably when we offer that there really weren’t many projects in our category in there,  so maybe we just weren’t what they were looking for in the first place this year.

No worries though, next year our awesomely complete Android features will basically default us in ;)

In other news, the project is still in a major upswing! The 18. we had 1200 people visit the page. We’re closing in on 30 000 visits and 50 000 page views a month. The forum is more active than ever and we’re seeing some really exciting projects popping up for both jME2 and 3 alike. We’ve had ourselves a bit of a set back here, but the project is stronger than ever, and we’ve got big plans.

To all prospective GSoC students: We’re truly sorry we did not make it. We sincerely hope you will still consider getting in touch with us and the community to realize your project regardless of extra funds. See you on the forums?..

Ruth Kusterer ‘Zathras’ is our core document writer

March 17, 2010 in Site & Project

We are thrilled to announce that Ruth Kusterer, known as ‘Zathras’ on our forum, has joined the jMonkey team as a document writer. Ruth has dedicated countless hours updating old documentation, rewriting pages and added many new ones. In cooperation with other helpful members she completely restructured our wiki’s landing page, which now provides a complete top-to-bottom ride for newcomers. She has also been at the forefront of GSoC preparations

Ruth is a NetBeans documenter by profession. Her high standards and affiliate network makes her a unique asset to the team. Along side general documentation advancements, her presence is sure to have a positive effect on Normen’s GDE project, based on the NetBeans Platform. With a dedicated doc expert on board, the jMonkey Team is certainly shaping up to be quite the broad-spectrum powerhouse.

jMonkeyEngine applies for GSoC

March 6, 2010 in Site & Project

We are applying for Google Summer of Code 2010. Everything you need to know about jME’s involvement in GSoC will gradually appear on our dedicated GSoC wiki page as things progress.

Right now our top priority is nailing down certain essentials before we’re ready to send in our application, which deadline is 13. March. The bulk of these essentials are explained in our newly created roadmap. You might not have seen jMonkeyEngine 3.0′s feature set ‘bulleted’ in full like this before, so give it a peek!

Most important is the ideas list, and we need your help! Please drop by the board and share any feature suggestions you might have! Some additional guidelines are on their way.
