1st Quarter Brief

April 11, 2010 in Site & Project

If  you’ve been gone for a while, or you just haven’t taken notice of what’s been going on within and around jMonkeyEngine these days, here’s a nice brief for ya! Quite naturally there are many things that don’t make it into this list as they are hard to quantify, but as far as plain and simple progress goes, this post does a pretty good job at covering the essentials.

Team

  • 11. February 2010 – Normen joins core
  • 17. March 2010 – Ruth joins core
  • April 2010 – The jMonkey Team is composed by 5 talented individuals with refreshingly adverse skillsets. The team is still steadily expanding.

Fun Facts

  • Thursday, 18. March 2010 we had an all time high of 1188 unique visitors come by our site. Much thanks to a hopeful GSoC participation that we unfortunately didn’t make the cut for this year. Oh, and a nice mention in Geertjan’s blog. Shall we say 2000 visitors by August? =)
  • 96970 Posts in 12930 Topics by 5515 Members. That’s an average of 17,5 posts per member (yes, there’s a lot one can say about this type of statistic, but I’m just sayin’.., take it for what it’s worth). Will we make it to 100k by 2nd quarter?
  • We can now count 553 messages in our private mailing list. This number has been climbing drastically these last couple of months since Normen and Ruth joined us, with several more trusted members on the way.

jME Advocates

These people deserve recognition for their unwarranted efforts (note that what is mentioned here is only the tip of the iceberg of all we have to thank them for):
Nymon – About time… His SceneMonitor is one of jMonkeyEngine’s most highly regarded tools, and it, or something like it, will definitely find its way into jME 3.0.
ncomp – Erm, substitute ‘monitor’ with ‘Worker‘ and above appraisal still applies? =P
Empire_Phoenix – He’s been of great help in the forums, made some useful commits and has recently shown great support for jME3.
theprism – jME playing a role in major commercial projects is extremely important to its longevity. Skape is certainly such a project.
PaulLamb – His persistent work with the 3D Sound System is much appreciated.
Someone’s bound to be unfairly left out for these things, so like always, we do really appreciate any suggestions you might have.

Big thanks to this wonderful community that makes jMonkey all that it is, and it’s developing into quite the beautiful beast won’t you agree? :) Now where to next?
