Publishing deal signed with Packt for jME3 Beginner’s Book

We got some monkeylicious news for you. On behalf of the jMonkey team, Ruth Kusterer @zathras has signed a contract with Packt Publishing to write an introductional book about jMonkeyEngine 3 (!!!). The book will target the beginner’s guide category, which should make it suitable for anyone between “just discovered jME” to “been playing with it for a while”.

jMonkeyEngine is a finalist in PacktPub – Say what!?

You heard it right. jMonkeyEngine is an Open Source Graphics Software Finalist in PacktPub‘s annual Open Source Awards. Sorry about the link-fest, but we figure this might be uncharted lands for our usual target audience.

It started as a simple “check this out” on the community forum. To be frank, I was not very hopeful, and it didn’t seem like the community picked up on it either. Yet somehow, here we are.

So a big thank you to all who nominated jMonkeyEngine for PacktPub in the Open Source Graphics Software category!

IntelliJ IDEA – Open Source License for jME Users

We recently had our open source license for IntelliJ IDEA renewed. Previously we’ve informed interested users through a rather obscure forum thread. I figured more people would be aware of this offer if we made a news item out of it. To anyone interested, here’s the free, ultimate edition license for this commercial IDE, available per-request to committed contributors to jMonkeyEngine.

Update: There seems to have been a slight misunderstanding among some users. This is not a license for the jMonkeyEngine! jMonkeyEngine, both v2, v3 and everything else residing in the official repository, is freely licensed under the ‘New BSD License‘.
